I like to call this the Four Bs. I went walking through Torrey Pines this weekend with my sister and our friend Kay. We walked along the beach and although it was too chilly to get in the water the view was amazing. The part of the beach we walked along had few people and the stretch was so long that you really couldn’t hear anyone. Just you, your breath and the waves. Whenever I stand on the edge of the beach I realize how small I am and how big the world is.
When I was at Sprouts I couldn’t help to pick up some brussels sprouts. Sometimes you just want some brussels sprouts. Am I alone? I tried making these brussels sprouts before around Thanksgiving. The recipe was inspired by Ina Garten on the Food Network. I used bacon because that is what I had on hand and I added “cubed” butternut squash.
I put the veggies in the oven with olive oil and salt. I cooked the bacon in a separate pan until it was mostly cooked. Using the drippings from the bacon I added the balsamic vinegar and brown sugar. I let it cook in the pan until it was a bit syrupy and you could run your finger through the back of the spoon. When the veggies were nearly done I added the bacon to finish up cooking. Pulled everything out and tossed it with the balsamic, bacon, brown sugar mix.
It was so good, I hope you try it. If you are in San Diego area anytime soon take a walk through Torrey Pines.
